Instructor of the Month! July 2013

Congratulations to our July 2013 Instructor of the Month...
BarBara "BB" Crawford!

BB joined Continuing Education during the past year. She teaches Anxiety Free Test Taking and Unpacking Your Emotional Suitcase. This Fall, she will add Lose the Holiday Blues and ESSential Leadership & Life Skills for Business to her impressive lineup.

We asked BB a few quick questions so we can get to know her more:
How long have you been teaching with Continuing Education? I just joined the Continuing Education family this year.
What is your favorite part about teaching? Observing students as they have "aha" moments of how the skills and tools I teach can really change their lives so they do not have anxiety, stress and emotional overwhelm as constant companions on this journey called LIFE. When a person experiences one of the Tools and feels the difference in class, instead of anxiety, they feel peace about stressful past events or fears of the future.
What would you name the autobiography of your life? The Effortless, Energized, Exciting Life of a Spotted Zebra: Leaving my Stripes of limiting beliefs and comfort zones behind, allowing my Spots of authenticity glow!
What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod? "The Joker" by Steve Miller Band
What is your favorite form of exercise? Walking and lifting weights
What’s your current favorite TV show/Movie? Big Bang Theory and Princess Bride
What is something you learned in the last week? How to live in the micro of life while maintaining the ability to view the situation from the Macro view. So I do not become entangled in the minutia of the moment. I have been practicing this for a while now, but this past week I learned truly how powerful this skill is and how it makes life so much more effortless.
When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time? Listening to music, reading, catching up with someone who has been in my heart.
What advice do you have for new instructors of Continuing Education? If your class doesn't fill up the first time or even more times, do not take it personally. If you really want to share your expertise, if it is your passion to share with others, be open to the input of the awesome staff at Continuing Education. They are experts in how to promote classes. Be open to tweaking the description of your class or when or how long or cost of the class. They are amazing and so very helpful. They want to see you succeed and share your wisdom and gifts. Teresa Chavez, Rufus Walker and Jennifer Hetzel are an amazing team to collaborate with in supporting you as a teacher of Continuing Education!

Maximize Your Class!

CTC Continuing Education puts time and effort into marketing our classes, but your class will be more successful if you help us. Here are some quick and easy ways to get the community interested and turn connections into enrollments.

Outreaches and Events. One of the most effective ways to gain awareness about your class is to talk to groups. Find a local club or organization that you feel is your target market and ask if you could simply talk to them for a few minutes. Many are often looking for speakers, so you would be helping them. You can give them information or do a mini-demo and go over a single concept that would be covered in class. It is also important to give them a handout that includes the date, time, and registration info for your class.  They will be reminded every time they see the paper. Did you know that our department will design and print fliers for your class at your request? Remember, no group is too small. Even if a group only has four members, that could be four more enrollments, or those members could talk about your class to their friends and family members. A group of four could generate several enrollments. You never know until you give it a try.

Social Media. Are you sharing info about your class on your social media sites? You should be! Let friends and family know that you are teaching a class. I guarantee they will be just excited for you as you are. I personally recommend attaching a picture to the post, which makes it easier for others to share. We try to feature classes on our Facebook as often as possible without spamming our followers with constant class information. Ask your corresponding coordinator about promoting your class, and we will be more than happy to post the information on our page.

Hopefully, these few tips can help you increase your enrollments. Feel free to contact us if you have any marketing needs or questions, let's work together to better our community.
